Online Resources
The Vertical Dance (UK) website has a great online course, with an archive of tricks ranging from beginner to Advanced levels (along with tricks for those who probably need their head read before attempting). Covering everything from transitions, invert dismounts, floor to pole techniques as well as the tricks this is a highly useful site and well worth the subscription.
Links For Pole Dancing Shoes & Clothes
While ebay provides a great source of cheap shoes, if you’re in the market for a pair of pleasers that don’t make an appearance in the Auctions, Exotic Footware is a great Australian website to shop. Prompt customer service when querying product and a huge range of shoes. But be prepared for a little wait- delivery is approximately 2 weeks from receiving payment.
Poles and Pole Supplies
I purchased a titanium Xpole and I use both that and the chrome. See my future review of the 50mm poles from these guys. Convenient and easy to use, I highly reccomend them particularly for their portability.
Pole dancing classes in Brisbane
Pole Fitness Australia is a Brisbane based company running classes in gyms and their own studios in places across brisbane. They do a routine based class, so your cardiovascular output is maintained throughout the class.
Polestars is an International franchise that is more moves based than choreography. Operating out of the Fringe Bar in Brisbane, it works you hard in terms of strength. The longer class time helps with doing some strength training before hitting the pole- a bonus for those intending on Pole training in the home environment.
Forums
The forums are an invaluable source of tips and tricks to break the back of those hard to achieve poses and spins. With many teachers and students ( beginner through to advanced) members of these boards, the gamut of available pictures, videos, opinions and frivolity will help any self-taught dancer.
I highly recommend the Vertical Dance Forum, particularly due to the fact that there is an active Australian presence felt on this forum despite being based in the UK. A very friendly, helpful and non-judgemental bunch, they make great mentors in this hobby. Note, this site requires the new member to be approved by the moderators, so expect a “Hi, what is your interest in pole”. It is done to specifically eliminate potential spammers and keep the types who have no interest in pole other than using the footage as a cheap strip club.
Another forum is the US based Body & Pole. Another great source of where to get those platform shoes and how to do many moves. There is no approval required to join this forum.
